Morges railway station, on the Lausanne–Geneva line, puts Lausanne a quarter of an hour away and Geneva half an hour away; the motorway junction is just as close. That position makes the town a sought-after alternative to the bigger cities, for people who work in Lausanne or Geneva but would rather not live there, while keeping easy access to the rest of the lake shore and to the vineyards further along the coast.

Long a garrison and market town, Morges has seen sustained growth in recent years: new residential districts have sprung up around the station and on the outskirts, alongside a dense historic centre of older buildings and townhouses.
